A few weeks ago I wrote a post about 6 Lies that Mom’s Believe. Chances are, you fall for at least one of these lies, at some point in your life, but you really want to get rid of them. You want to believe the truth, which is that you are amazing, beautiful and talented. You are smart, valuable and you are enough!
If you are falling for these lies, how do you get rid of them?
How do we stop telling ourselves that we aren’t good enough, smart enough, skinny enough, etc?
Here are 3 Ways I embrace truth each day.
Each morning, I wake up and the first thing I see is this pile of cards.
These are my affirmation cards. There are about 20 cards in the pile at any given moment and I add to them or take them away as needed.
I sit them on top of my phone so that I have to see these before I look at or read anything else.
What are affirmation cards?
They are simple but powerful cards that contain words that help us create the life we want to have or the person we want to be.
You may struggle with loving yourself, trusting yourself, feeling healthy, or feeling like your voice matters.
So instead of letting your brain listen to those lies, over and over again, we focus and reinforce what we DO want in our life.
I love myself.
I trust myself.
My voice matters.
I am strong and healthy.
You see, when you first write them and say them out loud, you may not believe it.
The good news is that your brain doesn’t know the difference. It just hears your voice, the voice it believes the most, saying positive things, so it starts working on making those things become the truth.
One exercise I love to do is what I call BURN THE LIES.
I write down any of the lies I’m currently battling.
Then I write down 2 affirmations, to counteract each lie.
After that, I set the paper with the lies on fire and watch them burn.
Before I know it, those lies are gone. This is a physical way for me to process the lies leaving me, and the truth being restored.
I love this powerful, yet simple exercise.
This concept was introduced to me by one of my mentors and although it was awkward and hard to do at times. I am so grateful to have been taught this exercise.
Are you ready to get uncomfortable?
Are you ready to LOVE who you are and embrace the truth within?
If so, then this exercise is exactly what you need!
There are a few variations when it comes to doing a Mirror Routine. I like to keep it simple.
I start by looking myself in the eyes and saying a few of the affirmations I mentioned above.
I love myself.
I forgive myself.
I am enough.
Now, just like I mentioned above, you may not believe the words you say at first. But I promise that soon, you will. You will have powerful experiences and emotions as you practice this exercise daily and the truth will become clear as day and this exercise will get easier and easier to do.
3.Pray to See the Truth
Sometimes it is hard for me to admit this, but I like to try and solve problems on my own. I’m a pretty independent person, and so I like to make sure I’ve done all that I can before I ask for help.
Battling these lies is no different.
I’ve tried every technique any mentor has told me to do, but sometimes, those methods just aren’t enough.
I finally have to humble myself enough to ask God for help.
I ask for Him to help me see, learn and embrace the truth.
He knows me.
The REAL me and He desires for me to see it too.
He wants me to see the truth of who I am and He is always willing to help me.
No matter what, I always walk away with a little more guidance and love in my heart and that is a perfect place to start.
So there you have it. Here are 3 ways I continually work on overcoming the lies and embrace the truth each day. I hope that these help you on your journey to loving yourself more.
If you’d like more support with this, I have a private Facebook community of women that is called THE LIGHT BRIGADE. Here I share daily tips and inspiration as you go forward on this journey and I’d love to have you join us if this speaks to you.
Good luck to you, as you start replacing the lies with truth.
